Repairing lives through restored vision

Sight is one of our most precious gifts. Can you imagine living without it?

Many elderly people in rural parts of India suffer from cataracts and this is especially common for people with leprosy. Although treatment here in the UK is simple and easily accessible, this condition often goes untreated in India and leads to blindness.

Without good eyesight, everyday activities become dangerous. There is also a huge knock-on effect on family as they struggle to care for loved ones who have lost their vision.

We work with The Leprosy Mission's hospital in Salur, providing transport and cataract operation fees for people in the communities we serve.

You can restore the sight of someone affected by leprosy for only £45

Life-changing treatment for Nagamani

65-year-old Nagamani is widowed and lives alone.

Leprosy has caused extensive nerve damage in her feet and she suffers from recurrent ulcers, making it difficult to walk.

Nagamani must have been terrified when she started to lose her vision because of cataracts. Sight is one of our most precious senses. Can you imagine losing your vision and your connection to the world around you?

Without treatment, Nagamani almost certainly would have gone blind and her ulcers would have led to amputation. She would have been forced to beg on the streets and face starvation. Such a future doesn’t bear thinking about.

A kind gift from someone like you meant our team were able to take Nagamani to hospital for treatment. She has now had cataract surgery on both eyes and her vision has been fully restored - what a transformation!

Thanks to our supporters, we can continue to help Nagamani.

Our team worked with her to secure a disability pension from the Indian Government and gave her protective footwear, crutches, ulcer treatment and a self-care kit. This will stop her ulcers becoming infected and help her to live as independently as possible.

Nagamani is very grateful - none of the changes in her life would have been possible without people like you.

She knows that she is loved by the Brighter Future family all over the world!
